Designing STORIES

I have been working at Montezuma Publishing for two years. My basic duties are to design and format an author's content into a finished product, but in my experience it has become much more than that. My work is to bring life to an author's story through fonts, color, and imagery.

Ambitus Volume Works

One of the most interesting authors I have had the pleasure of working with! The use of contrast between both the colors and motifs helped express the author's rich, poetic content.

This cover is a love letter to the words hidden inside.

Patriot, Prisoner, Survivor

Patriot, Prisoner, Survivor is a first-hand account written by James Bedinger about his life, service, and imprisonment in Laos during the Vietnam War.

I wanted to create an impactful cover that visualized the author's journey from imprisonment to freedom. The contrast between the dense, tropical forest prison below and the bright American flag towards an open sky was used to accomplish this.

Majoring in the Minors

A fun book for a fun author! Majoring in the Minor's by Patrick Sullivan is a book listing almost every minor league stadium in the States. The cover was designed to be an homage to the classic baseball card!

SDSU Daily Calendar
2020-2021

The university wanted a design that celebrated the school, so what better way than to incorporate the entire campus! I included all of SDSU's most notable buildings and used bright colors to bring warmth to the design.

The Black in Crimson and Black

A cultural capsule, celebrating the lives of "the Black Excellence of past and present faculty and staff at San Diego State University." The diagonal motifs were inspired by vintage cheer sweaters and used to add dynamic interest.
